Rosanna Willis - Apr 6, 2006 - 06:51:07 New Iberia [USA] I am researching the breed. I have a close friend of mine and has a breeding pair. I am considering take a puppy, but this wont be for another year. I want to be well prepared before hand. I own a Great Dane and was wondering if the temperament is similar to that of a Great Pyrenees? This is part of why I am here visiting your site. I have found it helpful in my search of knowledge. Thank you

Helaina Nash - Mar 27, 2006 - 3:13:57 Ontario [Canada] We adopted our 3 year old Pyrenees/Golden Retrieve mix about a year ago. Were we ever lucky to find her, and I can't believe that her last family chose their cats over her! She is definitely their loss and our gain. She loves to trample through the forest, but is equally happy to take a nap (on our laps if we let her!) I can't imagine ever owning another breed, as we trust her completely with anyone we meet.
james baker - Mar 24, 2006 - 05:55:55 oconomowoc [usa] We adopted a 16 month old pyrenees pup a year ago after loosing a 15 yr old golden mix , the temperments are very similar - and we are very happy with him . He tends to protect his friends at the park from aggressive dogs , although I do not exsist when we are there he tends to wonder off on his own and checks in with me periodically . He does not seem to be the aggressor when there is a spat , but will not back down and usually runs off the aggressor forcing them further away from the group and when there is a fight will plow into the middle of it to break it up - hopefully these will continue as I believe these to be good traits . If you can tell me what to watch for in behavior changes in case he does become more aggressive , but he plays well with all dogs and even has learned to play correctly with a deaf dog so he doesn't frighten him , he taps him on the back when he approaches and run arround in front of him in play so he can see him any info will help and thank you for your time sinceerely James Baker
Lillian Madewell - Mar 23, 2006 - 0:00:40 Huntsville, Alabama [US] I adopted a female Great Pyr from our local Animal Services. She was about 1 1/2 years old and the most loving dog I have ever had. I had just lost my pet and guard dog (Akita/Chow mix) and needed a new companion. Now Sheba is about 3 yrs old and her temperament seems to be changing. She started off being a big bear baby that wnated evryone to love her, now she has started to guard my yard and me but has started snapping at strangers and some family members. This has me very worried. I plan to take her to a trainer where she gets her grooming. I thnk Great Pyr's are beautiful dogs and need alot of affection. I enjoyed reading your website.
BECKY GOLLNER - Mar 18, 2006 - 9:04:42 Daphne [AL] I've had Simon Peter, my great pyr. for 11 years and he's been the best companion - great with kids and other people, but a bit finnicky with other dogs. He's starting to have a hard time with hip displacia (sp?) and arthritis and I dread the day I have to make the decision. I have no children, but Simon is like my own child. If I ever get another dog, it probably will be a great pyr., although since we've moved to the south from WI, we'll have to see how Simon does in the AL summer heat. I would highly recommend the great pyr. as a family member!
Michelle L. Ricciardo - Mar 16, 2006 - 6:04:09 Henderson, Nevada [USA] We adopted a Great Pyrenees for the first time about three years ago. He was approximately nine years old at the time. Our dog, Bear, is now having problems with his hips and no longer can lift his tail. His main concern is still our protection. I have never felt so safe before. If he is in pain, he does not show it. He is the most lovable and gentle dog I have ever had. He is also the most intelligent dog I have ever known. Sometimes it seems he can read our minds. Now I am crying. I will miss him so much. Each day I think will be his last; but then maybe he is too stubborn to leave us. That's all right with me.
Ellen - Mar 13, 2006 - 10:29:45 Abbotsford BC [Canada] Beautiful dogs. My condolenses at the lost of your dog this past January. Our Norwegian Elkhound past on last summer but we were blessed with another one 6 weeks ago.
Jana - Mar 13, 2006 - 3:43:11 Toronto [Ontario] Interesting website. Some good information. We have our first Pyr and he is incredible. He lights up around kids, likes people, loves other dogs yet is protective and very, very intelligent. We are showing him because with his looks and temperment it would be a shame not to breed him. He will also be a therpay dog and hopefully work with kids some day. Our breeder has been breeding for 40 years and has fabulous termpments and health. I love the Pyr for the challenges he brings and for the smiles he brings to all faces.

Roxanne Hurd - Feb 17, 2006 - 3:47:47 Prospect [Canada] Considering purchasing a Great Pyr.Came across your site and find it very interesting. The more I read up on the breed the more unsure I become. It is the first breed I've become very intersted in purchasing for our family. I don't want a guard dog just a dog that I know will be loving and gentle to my kids.
Tyler Tollefson - Feb 16, 2006 - 1:45:11 Weyburn, Saskatchewan [Canada] Great site! I have had my Pyrenees "Tully" for about 2 years now. I don't know that I could ever own another breed again.
Ashley Hall - Feb 16, 2006 - 1:29:29 Bloomington [usa] We have a 2 year old, "Hoss" & a 3 month old "Daisy," Hoss was easy to train, Daisy is giving us a run for our money.
noel melling(Penpriory)England - Feb 16, 2006 - 07:29:25 preston [england] What an informative site, a real guide to ownership of the breed.
John - Feb 13, 2006 - 0:27:26 San Antonio [US of A] This Breed Dog is like no other I have owned. I have had my Pyr "Halo" for three years now. She is a wonderful dog, a great companion and boy oh boy does she give the family lots of love. This is a lot of dog to handle, if you are not familiar with dogs and are looking for a first dog maybe you should try working with a smaller breed first. These dogs have minds of thier own and are very head strong, smart and stubourn. Remember how that cute fuzz ball so cute will turn in to a 100+ pound beast. But if you are looking for a great dog, and have expierence with dogs this breed is simply amazing, you will never get past those dark eyes believe me.
| Kathy Albers - Feb 12, 2006 - 08:37:00 Bendena,Ks. [US] I've had a pyrenees for one wk. She has stolen our hearts. It is taking some adjustments though. We have two Pembroke Welsh Corgis that are quite a bit older. We live on a farm and have sheep, goats lamas, and steers. Our pyrenees loves to check everything out every day. Connie Snider
