As I travel for my job, I could not ask for a better "first ambassador" to visitors - family, friends, or strangers. The later being the most importnat... These dogs have an instinct far beyond our understanding. I'm also convinced anyone without reason to stop by would opt to pass on by our beautiful 'yard art' and door keepers!

I have a 5 month old pup and I named her Star cause she lights up my life and had added so much love between my husband and son, she is mixed (newfoundland) so her color is black with a white spot on her chest and she has white sock's. I have another dog that is 16 yr.old, so I know that Star will help us when that day comes for Sweetie to leave us , she has been a great dog to have. Star is the first dog that we have had in our home, she comes in like she ownes the place she looks around the rooms then she runs to our bed where she sleeps and plays with us just like a child would, we play all kinds of games with her, so I'm really happy that we got Star from the internet that day cause the owner was going to put her down if she couldn't find her a home to go to the next day! I would tell anyone that is wanting a loving dog to have to get them a great pyrenee.

We have a brother and sister pair of pyr who guard our cows and chickens. They have already proven their worth by guarding our cow and her miscarried calf (they didn't leave her even though it was meal time!). They are true guardians.

Of all the dogs I've had - Samson impresses even me. He came out of Texas with me as a runaway from a bad home. I firmly believe he chose to find me for help (as he was being abused, and mistreated by people who only wanted fighting dog/guard dogs [for I strongly suspect illegal activities]). I dealt with the previous owners immediately, and found homes for the other dogs in their possession as well! The route Sam took was through homes I had spent lots of time in. He would just walk into these homes looking around - get some food from my friends, and move on. That is until he came to my steps, in which he stayed. His demeanor was easy to read for all. For 3 week the only people he trusted were my family, & friends. The Wife and I weren't really ready to take on a large dog, but we’re not idiots either. (Like I said he chose/found us - who am I to disagree) He cense has opened up his life like a puppy should. It seems he saw a problem and handled it- problem solved. His spirit is strong and independent. We have truly fallen in love with his gentle nature. Now he can roam as a Royal Breed should, experiencing both the in/out door life of Nebraska. It was hard on him when I had to leave for the Middle East, but he is truly where he wants to be - protecting those he loves in my absents. As family there are stories happening daily, and he isn't perfect, but as I said - impressive. Half the time I catch him sticking his tongue out at me as if to say "Gotcha” Ha!

My 6-year-old female Pyr seems to be going through the "terrible twos"! She is getting into mischief while I'm at work, chewing up my things! I never had this problem with her before. I haven't been able to take her on as many walks due to bad weather, but she does spend time in a large fenced back yard. Has anyone else run into this problem? I've heard large breed mature late. Could she really be going through the "terrible twos"? Please email if you can help!

I have a pyreneese, and i don't know what i would do without him. I should have looked the breed up before i bought him...i had no idea how they were, i just saw him when he was a puppy and had to have him. I don't know what i would do without him in my life, the only thing is i don't understand why he is so protective of me, and wants to lay on me all the time. I still have yet to figure that out. anyways, great website it was very informational

My fiancee & I recently obtained a great pyrenees. It was thought to be a sheppard mix, because of the markings, yet I have seen many others with identical markings, so I am uncertain. She is quite loving, and very gentle with our 2 year old son, and VERY, VERY protective! She's a smart dog, as well. Any info regarding this breed of dogs would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I have two "angels" -- the first is a half Great Pyr and half Anatolian Shepherd, named Patches. She has been my service dog for almost four years and is gentle, sweet and very in tune with my needs. We also have a trainee -- a 7 month old Great Pyr named Hannah. I love their temperments and no one bothers me with those great big dogs!
Thanks for the info on your site. Blessings! Viki, Patches and Hannah

We have always had Pyrs in our home. When our last one died 2 years ago we rescued a Bernese Mountain dog to join our other 2 rescued dogs. I love my 3 dogs, but there is just something about the pyrs that all 5 of us miss having one. We are looking to get another pyr soon.
The first one we had was before we had our 3 kids. They are the best with the kids! All 3 kids said they will always have a pyr also. We hope to get one by the spring.
We miss our gentle giants more then words could say.
