Daw - Oct 27 2002 - 01.21 Washington NC I was looking for a large dog to replace our huge golden retriever when he died. I searched the net and found the personality of the pyr was what I truely wanted in a dog. I found Aspen at a rescue. I had to beg my husband for weeks to be able to get her. He loves her now as much as I do. He actually said that he wouldn't mind having two! We also have an Italian Greyhound. What a pair. |

Neville - Oct 25 2002 - 07.43 Davis CA Hi. Just stopped by your site--beautiful! We had a Pyr lady when I was a teen-ager: she sparked my interest in showing dogs. I'm disabled, and she was my companion and protector. She did for me, what we now know, that, Service Dogs do for disabled kids (even tho' she was never certified as such)--brought me out of my shell, gave me a sense of responsability, and, most importantly, was my best friend. I now have an Australian Shepherd whom I have trained as my own Service Dog, and whom I also show. (I also found a "fun fact" recently, that Aussies and Pyrs are genetically related (in a way this didn't surprise me, as I felt drawn to Aussies awhile back as my "next dog", and now I know That background is part of the attraction--life really does come full circle sometimes, doesn't it? |

Boyd - Oct 24 2002 - 04.53 The Colony TX my mother has a Great pyrenees and she is the best dog in the world! When my kids are out on the swing set Sheba lays on the ground in front of the set and when the girls leave she follows them until they get to the door. I would not be able to let the outside alone without her with them. oh! And she loves my mothers cat! They are the best of friends. I look forward to one day having a Great Pyrenees of my own. |

Morningstar - Oct 23 2002 - 11.24 wilmington massachusetts I have a 4yr spayed female who was donated to me for use as a service dog. She is the first that i have owned of this breed. She is WONDERFUL!!!! however, I dont know very much about their health issues. the reason i ask, is that the first of this month, she was assaulted by a store mgr of a store in a mall, had a display rack shoved toward us and in her haste to get to me was injured by the store mgr. she got a peg hook rammed into her nose and she bled quite a bit .. had me scared. she was seen by a vet, but since then she has a very noticiable *rasp* when she breathes, and I am concerned. Any ideas?? is this normal?? anyone can email me at above addy. THank you. ps. she is AKC registered out of champion stock im told. And she is responsible for my life. she monitors my asthma and spontaneous apnea, multiple chemical sensitivity reactions, helps with mobility. and a bunch more. she IS MY LIFE!!! and I want to do as much for her. thank you |

Sherriffs - Oct 8 2002 - 20.17 Ajax Ontario We are looking into obtaining a puppy that is a mix between an Australian Shepherd (we had one for twelve years) and a Great Pyrenee. We know only what we have read about the Pyr, and are unsure as to how the two breeds will mix (there are several distinct differences in their natures). Aussies are easy to train, listen well, can be off leash with a high energy level. From what I've read, Pry's are more difficult to train, more independent in nature, and should not be allowed off leash. Luv to hear back from those who actually own these beautiful dogs as to your own experience in owning one! |

Vandiver - Oct 8 2002 - 01.17 Sapulpa Oklahoma I have a friend with a small farm who has had a working Great Pyrennes to gaurd her sheep for years. After her dog was poisoned she began looking for another. Someone gave her a Great Pyrennes they had kept in their back yard. They added a pool and the dog no longer had enough room. This dog, although a wonderful pet, is not a working dog. My friend is losing sheep to coyotes and needs to place this dog in order to get a working dog. I was trying to help her by looking for a rescue organization to get advice and help in finding an owner that was appropriate for this breed. I was unable to find an organization in Oklahoma on the internet, but found one in Texas and made a long distance call to see if they knew of any groups or people who could help us find the right home for this wonderful dog. I was on the phone for no more than 30 to 45 seconds before being rudely attacked and asked why she had not tried to place the dog (I called her, what did she think we were trying to do?) and to "be honest" had we really tried? I was so angry at this woman's attitude that I told her to never mind and hung up. I was then sorry I hadn't told her that I thought it was very unfortunate that she would be so rude to people trying to do the right thing by this dog and not just hand it off to someone who answered an ad in a paper or showed up at a store as she suggested. Being individuals and not an organization with resources to interview and screen people and experience in determining if a home is appropriate without publishing private names to a world that is no longer safe, it is not our first choice to allow people access to our homes or meet a stranger somewhere. I am really glad that most organizations do not have this first contact attitude or many dogs would be in worse shape than they are. I have posted this in hope that this person will realize what an image they are giving and that other organizations will make it a point to instruct their volunteers to be aware of the attitude they are exhibiting. Although there are many careless and uninterested people out there, there are also people who love dogs and would not give them to just anyone. |

Garland - Oct 6 2002 - 21.02 Montross VA We adopted a Great Pyrenees mix about five years ago. He was aloof at first, but once he was convinced he was here to stay, he became very devoted. He is a big boy, about 100 pounds. He's very protective of us and our property, but is universally polite to people we let into the house. He stays during the day in a fenced-in area of about 1/4 acre. He will kill any small animal that comes into that area uninvited as some unwary squirrels have learned. He sheds terribly in the spring, but he is easy to brush and doesn't mind at all. We love him dearly. He's gentle when he needs to be and tough when he needs to be. We would like to have another Great Pyrenees if he or she would be anything like our General. |

Lavorata - Oct 6 2002 - 04.14 Roselle Illinois Great Pyrenees' are great dogs. But there is good and bad. They drool no matter what. They shedd BIG TIME! They really like it when you shve them down, they start to become more playful cause with the fur they just fell really hot and sweaty. We have two and it's alot of work. One bad thing is in your house you can't have stairs when they get older the're bones become very fragile and now already our dog can't even pick up her rear end up from off the floor. YOU NEED ALOT OF BACKYARD ROOM! This type of dog is a sheep herding dog so it needs alot of space. They say that even 5 acres isn't good enough for this type of dog. But HEY! who cares about all those problems they're great wonderful giants, they're just like a smaller size of a sweet polar bear!If you're looking for a dog I would hiley reccomend this breed of dog. |

The sheltie tries to heard Crystal all the time. The get along quite well, considering that they are both females. Their is a lot of competition for our affection. We can't pet one without the other coming over for some as well. When crystal has had enough with the sheltie, she will lay down and swat at the sheltie until the sheltie stops. |

Charrois - Sept 3 2002 - 18.34 Sundre Alberta We live on a n acreage and have a 2 year old pyranese named Patches. She is a beautiful girl , wonderful with the kids and other farm animals! But she likes to take herself on walks and has recently gotten into trouble with a neighbor of ours. We have to keep her tied up or in a dog run because of her wandering nature. We have been told that she will "mature" at about 4 yrs and should be more likely to stay home then, but I'm not sure. We wonder about getting some sheep for her to tend - maybe that will keep her home? I'm desperate for solutions to her wandering problems because I hate to keep her tied or kenneled. Is wandering a natural tenancy for the breed? I would appreciate any stories or suggestions from anyone with similar problems! |

Then I take them back to the mother cat and later the dog has them back. It is a vicious circle. |
