Potts - May 7 2002 - 19.30 Burkburnett TX Ok, now I have better read the rules of what to write in the comment box, I want to write more. I have a 2.5yr neutered male Pyr. He is the most gentle animal I have ever had. He allows me to hug his neck and love on him. He never tires of it. He is the same way with my kids. He is NOT aggressive towards my other dog or my cat. When it snows, he acts like a huge bear rolling in it and turns very playful. But he likes to wander too when let outside to use the restroom. It is his nature. I could write a book on this dog but don't want to take up the whole page. Just love your dog. And remember breeders, there are alot of these dogs that turn up in humane societies every year because a family wants one then finds out that they are too large for their family or eats too much and wanders too much. I know. I bought one from a breeder and she is the one I had to send to a rescue home for that very reason. Have your dog spayed or neutered. They alot more well-mannered the earlier in life you do this. |

Potts - May 7 2002 - 19.09 Burkburnett Tx I am signing in but have not yet checked out the websit. My husband told me that it was really awesome. So I am looking forward to it. We recently moved our outdoor Pyr inside because we had to get rid of his sis to a rescue organization because we could not contain them and medically, could not afford them both. So we wanted him to be more a part of our family than just a backyard dog. It has only been 3 days and has not had one accident in the house. He is soooo smart and well-mannered. |

May 4 2002 - 01.32 Ottawa Ontario Hello, We are very proud to have a 10 month old female pyr as part of our family. We got her at 3 months, and she has grown steadily to the point where she is now over 100 lbs. I have heard that pys can have a final growth spurt between 10-12 months and will continue to slowly grow until about 18 months. Is this the case? I am wondering if anyone can share their experience with growth rates of female Pyrs after 10 months. Thanks. |

May 1 2002 - 06.07 Sacramento CA When I was a very little girl my family and I had a Great Pyrenees named Aspen. She was so gentle. My brothers used to put me on her back and I would ride around. She also sat through kool-aid dye jobs, trying on hats, and was very comfortable to sleep on. I just had a daughter of my own and when she gets a little older I will get one or two of these wonderful animals. I was just checking out this site to find out more information about how to make our family perfect for a Great Pyrenees. |

- Apr 23 2002 - 05.05 Calgary Alberta We are owned by a 4 1/2 year old female named Anais. I have never known such a deep connection to a dog - when I look in her eyes I am seeing deep into her soul. She is a loyal, devoted, selfless, brave companion and I feel honoured to have her as part of our family. She is the anchor in our life and rules the roost, letting myself, my daughter, the cats, the neighbours, the mailman, the birds who dare to fly over our house and anyone else within earshot know who's in charge.....but give her a hug and a kiss and she's a marshmellow. Can't image life without her...Pyrs are very special...do your research before you get one - they are not for everyone, but if they are for you, you will never know a more devoted friend. |

Apr 20 2002 - 21.45 Toronto Ontario I drop in here every once in awhile to read the guestbook. I've also posted once or twice about our own Pry. Today it's sad news though. We had to put our 10.5 year old girl down on Monday due to what was likely cancer. We still look out the door or down the hall for her and I woke up the other night in a thunderstorm thinking about her - she was so scared of storms she'd stand over the bed panting and pawing at us. I know that many of you have gone through this sad experience yourselves. Enjoy your pyrs (and other dogs and pets you may have) since they are often not with us as long as we wish they could be. Our vet sent us a poem called Rainbow Bridge (the author is anonymous) If you've lost a pet recently find it on the internet or e-mail me and I'll send you a copy. Good-bye Rumblebuffin. We miss you so much. |

- Apr 10 2002 - 00.50 Oakville Ontario Hi there! I just want to tell you that you have one of the best Pyr sites that I have visited here on this "world wide web". I have a two year old Pyr named Polar, and I love him very much. He has been an amazing addition to my little family and I wouldn't trade him for the world. Although I do have one concern, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Polar has always been very non aggresive with other dogs, in fact Jack Russels at the leash free used to "tackle" him and he never cared. More recentley however he is becoming more, how should I say, assertive. Actually on more than one occasion he has gone after random dogs for no apparent reason. I don't want to give you the wrong idea, Polar is still very sweet and gentle most of the time, and I never worry with people, but is this a normal trait with Pyrs?, or should I be looking for another cause possibly health related? If anyone has any advice, or has the same problem please email me @ jegallaway@hotmail.com Thank You |

Apr 9 2002 - 19.16 Arena Wisconsin After raising Alaskan Malamutes for 17 years, I decided I needed a companion for my one remaining female mal. I have always admired the Pyr, and as luck would have it I found one in Dec, 2001. His name is Czar and he is an absolutely wonderful companion and buddy to Raisa the malamute and Voodoo the cat. I have already completed two puppy/obedience courses with him and will continue on as long as I possibly can. I have even started to investigate the world of therapy dogs, as it has been suggested by trainers that he is perfectly suited. He is the most loveable, gentle, adorable little boy in the world and I am so happy to have found him. All of the research I have found on this breed is absolutely true...right down to what great excavators of landscaping they are! Fortunately we are in the country and surrounded by hundreds of acres of land for him to dig in! I love the breed! |

Aldarondo - Apr 8 2002 - 23.07 South Bend Indiana My family just purchased a Great Pyr five days ago. She is such a beautiful dog. At only 11 weeks old she is well behaved and we have already potty trainer her and she now sits by the door to go out. We love her already. We've named her Cleo and haven't yet come up with a Registered name as yet. I would like information on how to register her and how to get an AKC #. We weren't told how to do this. If we wanted to breed her down the road, how should we go about selling the pups and registering them? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks. |

Samson is 13 weeks old and weighs 33 pounds, any idea on how big he might be when grown? We saw his parents but I'm not a good judge on weight. His mother supposedly weighed around 91 pounds and his dad 145. Do they get as big as 145? Samson has the "mask" on his face and he's such a good boy. I'll be checking back soon. |

Nigro - Mar 21 2002 - 13.52 GA After losing our beloved Nikita, a Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix in July to sudden acute kidney failure we thought we could never have another. We got her at 11 weeks and shared 13 wonderful years together. Needless to say, after 6 months of pleading from our children, we broke down and got another Great Pyrenees puppy. "Nina" came to us at 6 weeks, a little white furball with those piercing, soulful pyrenees eyes and somehow a little bit of Heaven came down to earth to help heal our broken hearts. She is now 15 weeks and quite a 'little' character. She is wonderful with the kids although sometimes that typical big pyr paw is a little too much for our little daughter! She is a welcome addition to our family and has snuggled her way into our home and hearts. She can never replace our faithful friend Nikita, instead, our hearts have grown bigger to accommodate all the love we have for her. I have often read that once you are owned by a Great Pyrenees, there is no other breed for you and that is so very, very true. They are majestic beauties with big hearts and eyes that speak volumes. We are thinking of adopting from a Pyr Rescue when Nina is a little older so she can have a playmate (besides us!). This is a wonderful site - I enjoy coming in here and reading about others' experiences with this wonderful breed. |

Mar 20 2002 - 19.40 Santa Cruz CA I am visiting the website today to commemorate our adoption of Asti (AKA Asti Spumonte) from Pyr rescue one year ago this week. Asti is now 3 years old, 135 lbs of fluffy muffin. He is a true gentleman, kind and friendly to all he meets: human or canine. He is gentle with our two spoiled cats and visting children. He always has a watchful eye out to be sure our home is safe. He sleeps at the threshold of our bedroom door each night and loves his morning and evening walks. Our lives have changed tremendously since adopting him as he is our first dog in many years and we are so glad he is part of our family. We love you, buddy: Happy Barkday! |

Lesinski - Mar 4, 2002 - 11:37:41 Cheektowaga,New York 14212 My two girls are rescues from our local S.P.C.A they Iguess you could say they rescued me also. The only reason I found them was that morning my 12 year old samoyed had a heart attack and while I was bathing her. We went to dispose of her body and then I Just had to walk through the kennels. Thats where I found these two pair of eyes staring back at me. They were in seperate kennels emaciated and extremely frightened, not only by the fact they were extremely ill,but also seperated from each other . I immediately took them from the kennels walked with them every where on the grounds had my two year old granddaughter play with them to find out just how gentle they were. That was last July. Now they are the best part of our lives next to the grandkids. They way 105 and 97 lbs. respectivly, have learned that furniture is not to chew toys, but they still cant be in the house when no one is in attendance. This comes at the cost of one couch and loveseat. Barking and cats were two issues I had to deal with. The cat problem was handled throuhg a really good behaviorist,A squirt bottle, and the words no kitty. The barking well thats the breed and these two noise makers have stopped 3 or 4 garage breakins around our house. The neighbors were a bit happier though two weeks ago when I had a six foot stockade putup that even quited them alittle. They are the best. I am also interested in finding a male puppy as with two females a third would not be to welcome. So a 8wk to 7month old is out there and needs a couple of sisters please write. |

Evans - Mar 4, 2002 - 08:15:07 Savannah I had a Great Pyrenees named Big Jake V he would have been 4 years old this year... but the neighborhood that I moved into was friendly at first then the people behind me called the Animal Control on me & stated that I had a vicious dog that barked all hours of the night (that was Feb.6th by Feb.9th Jake was SICK I took him to the vet & they said he had an intestinal bacteria in his system. We brought him home but he wouldn't take his antibotics (I even tried his favorite food...Macaroni&Cheese) he turned that down I took him back to the vet and they kept him over night. I went to see him at 4 o'clock the same day & stayed with him as long as I could (I didn't know that it would be the last time I would see him alive). He died by his self sometime between Sat. nite & Sun. morning. My HEART was broken & I will never get over my loss of a great buddy and true companion that anyone could ever hope for. I got him from Nancy Hinkle in Guyton or Rincon,Georgia but I can't seem to find her address or telephone number. If there is anyone out there who would be able to help me I SURE would appreciate the help... |

Marcotti - Feb 25, 2002 - 0:16:12 Stoneham, MA I have one female (6) and three male Pyrs (2, 4, 7) and a female Newfie (8). Have just adopted a 4 yr old (Male) who I am finding at 140 lbs. has a lot of baggage that I was not told about, i.e. he killed one of my cats (shaking, became very aggressive with my vet (found out he fell out of a car at 2 months doing 30 mph, at 4 months at a box of rat poison and at two yrs was run over by his owner. Had to get someone to lift the car off of him, tried to bite a friend of mine. Yet -- with my husband and I is extremely gentle and well behaved. Very responsive and willing to please. Trying to work with him -- any suggestions ??? |

Rabbers - Feb 24, 2002 - 06:35:54 Warba HELP! I guess you could say we have a great pyrennes. Our neighbor had two gp puppies when we moved in the first of the year. I think they are about 7 months old. They would never come to anyone at all...very scared. I thought that odd...but he said they were there to take care of the animals from coyotes and they know that is there only job. Well, I was out of town on business for a few days and the one female puppy came home with blood all over her. I never saw her again. The male puppy started basically living in our dog house outside. So, the kids questioned our neighbor...apparently the dogs ran off and some farmer shot at them both. The female was hit in the abdomen so he had to put her to sleep. The male had some sort of b.b I assume in his jaw which the guy was able to remove. I have to mention I am not so sure about this story. Anyway, my husband and I agreed to start feeding the male puppy and let him call our doghouse home if he wanted. We now call him "Shy" since he is very very shy! He loves my toy poodle Toby and they play constantly. However, it seems no matter how much we work with him he can't overcome his fear. My husband...meaning well...tried to put a leash on him so he could bathe him and let him in the house when it was suppose to get really cold. Not a good idea...I knew he wasn't ready and I wasn't home. He flipped out. He bit my husband several times but he had leather gloves on so it didn't penetrate the skin. Then we found out another neighbor complained about Shy cause he does tend to "steal" stuff...so the neighbor who owns tried to tie him up...well, this time Shy really attacked and went right for his face. Help...will he ever get better and be a trustworthy dog? I have worked and worked with him but with no way to keep him from running around, I think every good thing we do to get him to trust us is undone by neighbors who chase him out of their yards what ever way they can. I am also afraid to have a 120 pound dog running aroudn lose (as he gets older) that is still a fear biter! HELP! Tandy R. |

Miller - Feb 22, 2002 - 4:55:59 Columbia City We have two Great Pyrenees and we are getting a puppy in about 6 weeks. Our first Pyrenees was a rescue. I saw this guy selling this white dog and my husband and I stated that we wanted a Great Pyrenees but we could not afford one yet. But there was this big white ball of fluff. I went over to look at her she only weighed about 60lbs and just held her head really low. I asked the guy how much he wanted for her he said $30.00 dollars so I grabbed her and gave him the $30.00. Now she weighs about 120 lbs. and is happy and healthy. She is 7 yrs old and going strong. She guards our goats like they were her own. I would not trade her for anything. I love your web site. |

8:44:03 Camrose, Alberta I have an absolutely wonderful 4-year old Pyr wo whom I gave the Irish name Ceili (pronounced Kaylee). She is my second Pyr. My first one, Dover, died unexpectedly at 5 years of age. Ceili is a darling girl although somewhat on the timid side compared to Dover. I have noticed that many others who have written here have mentioned that their dogs bark quite a lot. Ceili is not a barker, even when our Beagle, Corky, gets barking. On those occasions when she does bark, however, it is quite impressive! I can't say enough great things about this breed. |

Salisbury - Feb 18, 2002 - 5:52:06 Omaha, NE I have a 7-year old female pyrenees named Sophie. She is so sweet. I got her when she was 9-months old. She came from a breeder but she was abused. The breeder said someone else had her and then returned her to the breeder. My husband and I were very shocked to see that who ever had her abused her very badly. Even our veterinarian said that whatever happened to her is very deep seeded, but he know if anyone could help her we could. Thanks to our 7-year old German Shepherd, Sam and alot of love and attention she has come along way. I was very disappointed in the breeder that she did not return some of the money we paid for the pyr after telling her how this dog had problems and it was obvious that the pyr had been abused. The breeder just briefly mentioned that the dog need was some TLC. The breeder did say that we could return her and get a puppy but that if we returned her the breeder would put the pyr to sleep because she wasn't good for anything. Being the dog lover that I am I didn't have the heart but I did feel that the breeder should of returned some the money. Live and learn. Regardless, I love my Sophie. |
