Wooliver - Feb 18, 2002 - 8:29:40 heiskell [USA] I loved looking thru your site. We recently purchased a 4.5 month old pyr. I was concerned about how she would be along with my 3 and 5 year olds. At night she checks the house then goes to their room and sleeps across the threshold. I've never been happier! |

Salisbury - Feb 18, 2002 - 5:52:06 Omaha, NE [USA] I have a 7-year old female pyrenees named Sophie. She is so sweet. I got her when she was 9-months old. She came from a breeder but she was abused. The breeder said someone else had her and then returned her to the breeder. My husband and I were very shocked to see that who ever had her abused her very badly. Even our veterinarian said that whatever happened to her is very deep seeded, but he know if anyone could help her we could. Thanks to our 7-year old German Shepherd, Sam and alot of love and attention she has come along way. I was very disappointed in the breeder that she did not return some of the money we paid for the pyr after telling her how this dog had problems and it was obvious that the pyr had been abused. The breeder just briefly mentioned that the dog need was some TLC. The breeder did say that we could return her and get a puppy but that if we returned her the breeder would put the pyr to sleep because she wasn't good for anything. Being the dog lover that I am I didn't have the heart but I did feel that the breeder should of returned some the money. Live and learn. Regardless, I love my Sophie. |

jude - Feb 16, 2002 - 6:07:26 balsam [United States] hi we have a pyr named Tewaiz,he is 3 yearsold. We just love him to death. He is so cool, he is definatly mans best freind.Except for the occasional barking spasm, he is pretty quite. It is quite funny, this maybe considered a storie if you want.My sister owns a Jack Russel and she is the same age, the 2 dogs have been friends since they were puppies. It is really funny when they play together becuase you have a little dog and then a humungous dog rough houseing together. One day the Jack Russel got to excited and ran as hard as she could strait at Teiwaz, who happened to have his mouth open when she did so. She went right in and half-way down his throat, all you could see of the Jack was the tips of her hind feet sticking out of his mouth, kicking and wiggling . Tewaiz had a look of surprise, and started to choke. We had to pull the Jack out of his throat. He had almost swallowed her! They didn't play any more that night. I guess that the Jack didn't like being swallowed, and Tewaiz thought that the Jack was stupid for climbing down his throat. |

Feb 13, 2002 - 4:56:35 My Bailey is the sweetest and most gentle dog I have every owned. She is very protective and also a big baby. I really enjoy when grown men cower at the sight of her barking at them when they come to the door, when all she'll do is smell them to death. She is my best friend. She has the run of the house and I wouldn't have it any other way. She has grown up around 4 of my grandchildren who have hung on her, rode her, puller her ears and tail and taken her bones and she never showed any meaness. When she has had enough she just goes and lays somewhere quiet. There will never be another Bailey. |

Haferkamp - Feb 11, 2002 - 4:20:34 Oglesby, TX [USA] We are the proud parents of 2 Pyrs. Bear is a 3 year old male and Sassy is a 2 year old female. The "babies" are inside/outside lovies. They spend the majority of the hot TX summers in the house or in their pool. Sassy came from suburban breeders and she is the more aloof and outdoorsy of the two. She often looks forlorn and deep in thought. Bear was raised, untouched by human hands until he was 3 months old, in a pasture by a cripple nanny goat. Now, he is the people person. He is so intuitive to the emotions of those around him, and when he is happy--he is happy all over. He also smiles the biggest toothy grin when you come up. That smile is taken as a snarl by those who don't know that he personifies the "gentle giant", and it can be quite intimidating. Our only complaint would be the nighttime barking, but hey--they are worth the inconvenience! More often than not--out here in the country--they are alerting us to something. |

Feb 8, 2002 - 2:50:15 Fayetteville, NC [USA] My husband and I recently purchased our first Pyr. When he got "Zeus" he was about 6 weeks old and now he's going on 10 weeks. He has grown so much in the past 4 weeks, it's unbelieveable!! This has been my fist experience with the breed and I couldn't be more pleased. "Zeus" has been a wonderful puppy and we are looking forward to watching him grow into a great and noble giant. I understand that Pyrs have a tendancy of being quite stubborn when it comes to training. "Zeus" has done very well learning the basic commands such as "sit", "shake" and "down" (lie down). He also has taken to the leash quite well after some practice and lots of patience! The only problem that we are having is his constant nipping. Everytime you reach down to pet him he just wants to chew on your hand. If anyone has any advice that may help us please e-mail me! Thanks for reading! |

Wicklund - Feb 4, 2002 - 2:47:46 University Place, Wash. [USA] We got our first pyrenees back in July 1999 and he has been the cutest thing! He's pretty much an indoor dog, but there's nothing better to him than sitting out in the middle of the yard, in the windy, stormy, pooring down rain, just loving it! My only problem - off his leash, he runs, and runs, and runs! Will not stop and won't come back. Any suggestions? We never took him to an obediance school - should we start now? He'll be 3 yrs. in June 2002. Thank you for any comments and I appreciate your web site! |

Robertson - Feb 4, 2002 - 10:18:38 Catheys Vly. [USA] On 1/31/02 I went to the pound looking for a chihuahua, there were none so I checked out the rest of the dogs. I saw a girl through a little hole where the dogs go from inside to outside so in went inside and she sure was a Great Pyranese. I asked about her and was told that her euthinasia date was 1/26/02. I adopted her immediately. She seemed scared to death of everything. I was on my way to a night class and had to leave her overnight. The next day I had a funeral to go to, and didn't pick her up till almost closing time. When she saw me, she wagged her tail a little but still stayed away from the cage door. The attendent got a rope around her neck and we literally had to drag her out of the cage, inch by inch, with all the other dogs barking, the sound was deafening. It took almost 15 minutes to get her to my car. She was so dirty, she was almost brown, and smelled bad. When I got her home, I had to drag her out of the car. All of this dragging was done with a soft voice and coaxing, and gentleness. I had to go to the store, so I left her on the patio, since she wouldn't move. When I got home she was gone. I went looking for her and found her in the hay barn across the street, but when I went one way she went the other, and I lost her again. It was getting dark by this time, and my husband brought the leash and flashlight, and we found her again in another barn, and cornered. I was never afraid of her, she seemed so scared. My husband brought a steak with him, and I gave her the steak, she wouldn't take it from my hand so I put it on the ground, and she ate it then. We waited for her to eat it to the bone, but it was really dark by then and we dragged her out of the barn and headed home. After we got her going, she would run a little then she would dig in again. Finally we got her to the dog house and hooked her up to the tie we have out there. She climbed into the dog house and I put the flap over the door. I think she felt safe in there because she wouldn't come out the whole next day. I kept going out to her, fed her gravy, and milk. I pet, hugged, and just generally loved on her. The next day, 2/3/02, she was jumping around, scareing the other dogs, because of her size, playing like a big puppy. I love this girl. I named her Mercy, because I've wanted a Great Pyranese for 3 or 4 years, and God showed us both mercy for her life and for my heart. Thank-you for reading Mercy's story. |

Beil - Jan 30, 2002 - 4:17:20 Pleasant Hill [USA] Yesterday I had to put my wonderful companion Romeo to sleep. In July he had his front leg removed due to Cancer. It was that or loose him to the disease. I was not ready for that and he was not ready to leave. I know that because he was up and around and showing signs that he was feeling 100% in about a week and a half after surgery. Truly remarkable. I adopted him from the Great Pyr Rescue in Northern California 5 years ago and have enjoyed every minute that he blessed me with his company. I miss him terribly already which was the reason for me checking out your site. Thank you for the lovely, peaceful home page. I miss you Romeo. |

Jan 25, 2002 - 7:28:22 Somerset, WI [USA] I enjoyed going through your site and seeing other Pyrenees lovers (and Pyrenees pic's, too). Patou is an 8 year old female. Oops. Yep, got her name from a dog book, not thinking about how they mainly reference males. That's ok, though, because anyone who knows her calls her Tout (pronouced Toot). Anyone who lives with a Pyr will know how conservative acting these giants can be...don't waste any energy unless it's really worth it and her role as "rule enforcer" was evident at 8 weeks old, scolding the cats and her puppy brother if they were not behaving well. Pyrenees are one of the gifts to the world. I know Patou is. Pyrenees are great. I can not think of another breed that has such heart. When I look into her eyes I know I am looking at an "old soul". |

Williams - Jan 23, 2002 - 11:38:29 Marina Del Rey [CA] My husband just rescued a beautiful 7mo female Great Pyr. A sad story with a very happy ending. We have named her Maggie. She is the most loving and best natured dog I have ever owned. We also have two jack Russell Terriers. The funniest thing is watching the 10 pound Jack Russell boss the Great Pyr around. I really hooked on Great Pyrs now! |

Dunster - Jan 22, 2002 - 6:28:00 Billings, Montana 59101 [U.S.A.] I enjoy going to different sites on Pyrenees, we raise them also, but only for guard dogs, we don't sell any for pets, however they can make a wonderful pet. We have 80 dogs now but will be sold out by late spring. I enjoyed your site. Kim |

Kuhl - Jan 21, 2002 - 09:06:13 Portland [Maine] We had the joy of owning a male Pyr for 14 years. We will shortly be looking for another dog or pup and probably will consider a rescue service first, as we are experienced Pyr people. |

Bradway - Jan 20, 2002 - 7:38:51 oklahoma city [us] I became interested in the great pyrenees in March of 2001 when I met a lady that had a pair of Pyrs. They were such huge dogs and yet they were very calm around all the people that were around(we were at a festival).I asked her about them and became eager to have one of the beautiful dogs myself. I now have an eight-month old female named Nakita. I got her when she was 2-months old. She is wonderful!I have a four-year-old daughter that loves her too!Nakita is so gentle with her and very protective which is what my husband and I were looking for in a dog. We are now thinking of getting a male sometime in the near future. She has been a wonderful addition to our family! |

2:30:36 edmonton [canada] I am determined to get a great pyrenees as my pet. But there is just one thing that kept me thinking...... I read on the articles and books , they all say that Pyrs are quite the barkers.....although I have large yard but I am still concerned that would be an issue to my neighbor... Does anyone can tell me how noisy a Pyr can actually make on a daily basis? Thank You! |

My best buddy is now a certified therapy dog (Delta Soc.) and we happily visit nursing homes and schools. He brings fun and smiles to everyone he meets. Mr. T. is totally terrific!! |
