Mendoza - Aug 20 1999 - 12.28 Bakersfield California We now have our third Great Pyrenees. I thought I would die of a broken heart when our last GreatPy died of cancer. But then we got Roy from great Pyrenees Rescue. He came from an abusive home, tied up most of his life and let go on a beach where he got hit by a car. We got him a few days after the car hit him. He was 14 months old. He has been a GREAT blessing!! It took awhile but he is well socialized now, easy going, very very loving and protective of his family especially me.He loves to backpack with us,camp and ride in the car.He has overcome his terror of traffic and trusts people again. He thwarted a break in one day while I was home. Two thugs were trying to beat the door down . I was home alone except for Roy . He jumped up into the window (I thought he was going to break the glass) and barked like he was going to kill something .He then went to the door and jumped at the door .I saw the two thugs run away like they had wings on their feet. He spent the rest of the day sitting looking out the window or standing on his hind feet looking out the window. He sleeps in every night and we have not had any further problems. If you are considering getting another GP consider a rescue dog. There are many who need and deserve good homes! They will return your love and care a thousand fold. Sir Roy of the High Sierra has a playmate ,our other dog Nugget who is a Lab/husky mix and gets along with her and the cat well. He and Nugget are the greatest of friends. My kids love him to death and feel safest when he is with us knowing he will protect us.He even likes to swim ,which is unlike our last two GP's .I can't imagine life without Roy . |

Thoresen - Aug 19 1999 - 18.33 Eau Claire WI My dream come true! Furbi was 8 weeks old and 13 lbs when we brought her home. What a wonderful addition to our family. She is so beautiful and the most mild mannered & intelligent puppy. She is so loving & protective of my 2 little girls and is so much a part of our family in everyway. I don't know what we did without her. It is now 3 months, 30 lbs, & dozens of chewed toys later and the unconditional love she continues to give us all is immeasurable. Everyone who meets her has to know her breed & has to pet her, she is so soft. She is my gentle giant! |

Teague - Aug 19 1999 - 13.59 Orange TX We have a one year old pyr that has decided to become protector of the universe. With the addition of a daughter to the household, I was surprised to find he did not get jealous about the time I spend with her. He sleeps at the foot of her crib most of the night, and when she cries, he's the first one there to make sure nothing is wrong. He no longer takes a flying leap onto the bed, he makes sure he knows the baby is safe before he goes to another part of the house or outside. Cheyenne is the best round the clock nurse that any new parent could ask for. Not to mention everything else he has added to our lives. I could go on for days!!! But needless to say, this is the best dog anyone could ask for. |

More and more often, we find ourselves missing the presence of these magnificant companions...and I know it won't be much longer till we start to look at making an addition to our family. http://greatpyrenees.com/ |

Goodhead - Aug 17 1999 - 20.08 Minersville PA Two months ago my husband and I acquired a 4 month old Pyr (Greyson). He started out as a very active puppy. He would wait for my husband to go to work to give me the look of "let's see what I can jump on now that dad is out of the house" look. We also have a 12 year old female Chow (Samaria) that now gets along great with Greyson. Couldn't be happier. |

More - Aug 17 1999 - 15.24 centerville UT I have two Pyrenees---male (21 months) and female (22 months). Both are a joy. The male is deaf. They require much attention but they give more back. Beckham - Aug 16 1999 - 17.02 Thomaston Georgia I'vw always wanted a large dog. So, imagine my surprise when I found a put-out and abused dog at my grandparents. They gave her to me and I took her home. When I took her to the vet they told me that she was a Pyr, pure-blooded! Her owners before had probably bought her without doing any research. She turned out to be more than they could handle. But, now I have her. She is huge! She comes up to above my waist! She is the sweetest dog and she goes everywhere with me. I was sad to find her in the state she was in, but, I'm glad it was I who found her. Because she is now lively and healthy and my best friend! |

and Kaye Matteson - Aug 16 1999 - 13.59 Buffalo Gap Texas We just got our first Great Pyrenees pup in Jun 99. She is a sweetheat and we named her Tawna. We got her to guard our goats. She used to be afraid of the goats at first because they all towered over her but now at 5 months she is almost as big large as our biggest goats and gets right in there and tries to play with them all. One question though: how are these gentle beasts with newborn and very young goats? We have 2 nannies due anytime now and I am just a little concerned!! This is a great site to finally learn about our big baby!!! |

Winters - Aug 13 1999 - 23.09 Pinedale WY I bought a Pyr 5 years ago - My husband wanted a Malamute, but we had 2 little girls (& some acreage along the creek with wildlife) I did some research int0 dog temperments & the Pyr won hands down. Our Pyr, Max is like one of our children - my husband LOVES him & the feeling is mutual. Everyone loves Max. What a wonderful family dog - so loyal, so gentle, so protective- and unwilling to enter a fight if unnessary...& yet he scares off unwanted company... A bark collar works great to curtail his evening escapades - he is so intelligent - he's been shocked maybe twice in 5 years and we don't even use it anymore.... he knows...when he's gone, we'll get another Pyr. |

henderson - Aug 13 1999 - 19.37 illinois I have two pyrs and I desperately need help. They have both developed skin problems this summer that nothing the vet has tried has helped. They are half brother and sister 41/2 and 4 yrs old. They itch constantly and have lost all the hair on their bellies and legs and now they are working on their feet. The red scaly patches turn dark and swollen. The vet says it is not mange. If any one has any ideas - I'm desperate! I don't want to lose these wonderful dogs. |

Aug 5 1999 - 09.45 IA I have a 5 1/2 yr male - love of my life. I had a female until I lost her to Addison's disease several years ago. Haven't met a Pyr I didn't adore! Their biggest problem in my house is that I am more stubborn than they! My boy does some "PR" for the Humane Society, although he came to me from an excellent breeder. His striking looks grab attention and then we can explain our mission. He is an angel in crowds as well as one to one. |

Moriarty - Aug 2 1999 - 12.39 Meredith NH I recently signed the guest book. However, I want to share something that has happened recently. We discovered that, Dryfus, my six year old pryenes has bone cancer. He has been given 3 to 6 months to live. I do not want to upset anybody. I merely want to share this information to help people avoid dealing with the grief that I am dealing with right now. We noticed a limp in Dryfus's walk. The vet stated that he had arthritis and not to worry. A few weeks later we got a second opinion and we were told the terrible news. Dryfus has a malignant tumor just above his knee. I just wanted to share this information with people that know what it is like to have this special animal as a part of their family. http://www.greatpryenese.com/ |
