We have a beautiful Pyr and his name is Clyde. He is 16 months old. We live on a farm with many other animals including sheep. Coyotes are a real problem in this area, but since he was about 6 months old Clyde, along with his sidekick Maxi ( a Border Collie) have been working hard to protect their flock and we have not lost a single animal. We love our Pyr very much and don't know what we would do without him!

We have just adopted a female Pyreneese. She is almost 2 years old and is a lover. She is blending in well with our 3 boys, 7 year old mix breed dog and our three cats. We have named her Sunny because of the sprial tail, the spiral is a symbol for the sun.

My husband and I saw a Pyr. for the first time about 2 years ago in a dog show. have wanted one ever since. We finally bring Kianna home in about two weeks. My family is so excited. It's like having another baby! She's only six weeks old. We visit her at least once or twice a week to bond with her.

Our Rottie died a week ago today. Am looking for a large breed that is protective and very good with children as we have a 10 month old boy. Have been in close contact with a Great pyrenees pup once and thought him beautiful.

We have had Beau for three years, he is always starved for attention, but usually gets it! I can't help it! He is an overweight 155 lbs.! But he is great with everyone and I wouldn't trade him!

Amy - Octo 26, 2000 - 00:39:47

We got our Pyr at two months old. She was soooo adorable! We had to have her. She was very cute on the way home by barking at us! We should have known she'd be a barker then. She, Ally, barks every night between 7:30 and 8:00. At nothing, at something, at herself, at us, at shadows! She is the most wonderful dog any of us have ever had. She is definitely one of our family. She believes she is a lap dog, which provides much entertainment. She is super with our eight year old daughter. Though she almost always has scratch/nibble marks on her, our daughter that is! We would not trade her for the world!!

i dont know if this is the right place for this in fact im sure it isnt but imma try anyway...
:o)
i have just adopted from the local shelter a great pyr.... he is sweet and the most wonderfull dog .. we have named him Ben as in Gentle Ben because of his size/gentle nature... here is my delema he is atleast 40 lbs underweight according to the vet but in excellent health otherwise
he came to the shelter that way
he currently weighs in at 68.7 lbs and is 32 1/2 inches at the shoulder
we are feeding him science diet in the proper formula for a 2 year old dog freely and although he is eating just fine i was wondering if you have any or can direct me to someone who could give me advice on "fattening him up" he has free reign over our acre and a half and the house .. is excercising and playing with our other dog .... so i really just need some advice on feeding my vet( well i will be switching due to this) was of no help

this weekend we will be adding a new Pyr puppy to our family. We had Willie for 12 years and lost him last March. Willie was a part of our family but had a job protecting my dairy goat herd.. Kuzu an Akbash is now the herd protector..but we miss the Pyr temperment so much so took a long time to find the right puppy . "Augie " will help Kuzu in the important role of goat guardian but he will be a special member of our family.

My room mate is a Great Pyrenees named "Bear's Big Heed". I just call him "Bear". He doesn't pay his own way or clean up after himself but he's a good man just the same. Pyrenees' are ultra-inteligent and powerful (and stubborn). Bear moves our oversized chair across the hardwood floor to the window so he can look out and bark at the mailman and squirrels. I finally just left it where he wanted it. You won't meet a more even-tempered breed of dog, especially if you keep them well socialized.

My dogs name is Kuma (means white bear in japanese. I got him from the human society about 2 years ago he was not wanted and had a big cut on his paw, I saw him and knew he was going to be the best dog in the world and he is. Kuma is 2and a half years old, is the most loving dog I have ever had. Anyway this type of breed is to me the best. I wouldn't trade him for anything.

purchase 2 great pyrenees to guard our home and
livestock. If anyone knows of a good breeder
between Bakersfield and San Fransisco please

I have never seen a Pyreness until this morning.
My mixed breed dog got loose and a nice woman stopped
and took her home. Then called me. I was told when
I came for her there would be a 100 lb. puppy sitting
in the yard and not to be afraid. It was a Pyrenees. She is the
most beautiful dog I have ever seen and very gentle.
If I did not not have two dogs and a cat I would certainly
think about getting one of these dogs.

We have been honored to have had PYRs with us for 11 years. In the mountains, in the water, on the sled or packing, as protectors and companions they have no equal.

Bennie Dorough - Octo 19, 2000 - 5:25:06

Last week we had a Great Pyrenees show up at our house. It was nearly starved and had been shot in the back just above its tail. It couldn't use its right back leg. We took it to our vet who gave us medicine in hopes of getting the swelling down and possibly enabling it to use its leg again. She was so mistreated that she looked like an old dog even though the vet said she was only about 9 months old. A few days later, she was well enough to hobble over to our neighbors' house. They didn't know we were caring for the dog and took her to the animal shelter. I was there before they opened the next day but there was no sign of her. I don't know if she managed to get out of the holding pen or if they killed her and didn't want to tell me because Alabama has a law that they must keep an animal for 7 days. Anyway, she's gone and my heart is broken. Since Sweetie was such a wonderful dog, we have decided to adopt another one. We would like to find a mature dog so if anyone knows of one that its owner can't keep, we would appreciate hearing you.

I have a 4 year old pyr named Hudson P. He is the love of my life. No matter where I walk him, people stop me and tell me they have never seen such a magnificant looking dog. He has the most gentle personality and is so loveable. I have had dogs for the past 27 years, but he is by far the biggest and gentlest creature I have ever loved.
He makes my life complete. He so smart and well behaved. I live in a small house in the city of Poughkeepsie and he is a house dog. I would never leave him outside by himself. He wants to be wherever I am.( and I like it like that)

I was given a Pyrenees last Feb. by some friends who had her for two years as an outside dog only and when she got pregnant by their male and had puppies they decided that they wanted to keep all of the puppies but not her.So I immediately told them I just had to have her. I was a little worried at first at how well she would make the change but she is doing great. We keep her in the house and for a dog who had never been inside it is amazing how fast she got spoiled. She is the best dog we have ever had and she is great with my kids. I am always telling people that she has more patience than anyone I know, because she puts up with soooooo much from them. She has truly become a member of the family.

I adopted two dogs from the SPCA about 6 months ago. One is a german shepard/chow mix and I thought the other was an offspring of a St. Bernard. I found out a couple of weeks ago that "Bandit" is really a Great Pyrenees. He is my little teddy bear. They are the best dogs anyone could ever own. He has done some pretty crazy things, like chewing up all of my work shoes, but he is so loyal to me. I get compliments on how beautiful he is everyday!

We got our first pyrn. pup about 6 months ago.
His name is Samson and is 8 mths. old. He is
neutered and very friendly. I would like info.
for advise on how to get him to stop chewing
things around the house so we may leave him in
for longer periods of time, he has plenty of chew
toys. Will he just outgrow this? He is a very cuddely
pup and all of us are enjoying him very much however,
with him chewing on everything, we have to keep a
continuious eye on him, and I would really like him
to be an inside dog (at least in bad weather)
Thanks to all that reply

We have 3 wonderful Prys. No coyote problems since they come on the seen. Avalanche (Avie) our 6 year old female has an Embden gander in love with her. This affair with Romeo has been going on 4 years now. Everywhere Avie goes Romeo is there, when her first litter of pups arrived I expected them to be covered with down feathers! We just received word that a litter of grandpuppies was born, we get our 4th pyr at Christmas her name will be Tornado (Tori). Her uncle is Cyclone (Cy) and Grandad Cody.

I signed this guestbook last November, just after I'd gotten my new female Pyr, Dharma. She died unexpectedly this past Sunday. I'm still heartbroken. For the eleven months that I had her she was the best companion I have ever had, a gentle, spirited teddy bear that loved to sneak up on my bed every chance she got. I'll never be able to replace her. My breeder is going to probably have another litter in the spring, so I'll either get one of Dharma's dad's pups, or a pup from her brother. Until then my new Newf pup Sophie, my Newf Sisko, my Golden Retriever Nevada, and my terrier-mix Buddy will all feel a little lonely.

A few months ago, I wrote that my neighbor was moving and could not take Angel-her Pyrenese- with her and I said I would take her. Well, Labor Day weekend she moved in. It was touchy with my other dog for about 3 weeks, but they seem to be getting along OK. Angel was an outside dog, but I have brought her into the house. She was like a bull in a china shop, but she is getting better. I LOVE her, she is so majestic and gentle. My only problem has been potty training her - she seems to like my living room rug best! But we'll get there!!! She has been a great addition to our family!!! Even my son who did NOT want her is coming around!

I went to a saint bernard breader to buy a puppy for my two young children. I am a recent widow and I wanted a very large baby to protect my children and I. We looked at all the puppies and they like thier parents were very dark and had droopy jawls and S.B. markings. But there was this white one that chose us, no matter how much I told her to go away she followed us. I didn't know anything about Saint bernard so I asumed she would get her coloring later. when I took her to the vet he told me she was a great pyr. throw-back. I said a "What" She does not look like a saint bernard at all. She is white with thick wavy fur and funny double toes on her hine legs. she does not have long droopy jowls. She is currently 5 1/2 mos old and weighs 55 lbs. She is the most wonderful dog in the world. I am bias, thogh. I want to know more! Pleas! Dawn

We purchased our girl ZOE Pyr in 2/00, and saw her parents both all white and no papers but that was ok with us because we wanted a great pet to go with our GOlden retrievers. Our Zoe is coal black and white and no double dew claws. My question is I thought I read that back at the turn of the century Pyrs were cross bred with St. Bernards, because our Zoe has those markings. She is small for a pyr, probably 70 lbs. now, but if anyone knows about the St. Bernard link I would appreciate knowing. Thank you very much.

Hi! This is a really nice webpage, and I enjoy coming and finding more and more info about the Pyrenees and seeing all the photos and comments. I have a 1-year 4-month old Pyr named Moose. He is a wonderful dog and I love having him. I'll write more some other time. Goodluck with your Pyr!

Our pyr's name is Even-Song. We rescued her. She is a wonderful companion for our Chow-Lab mix. Evie spent some time in the show arena, but now she likes to play, sleep, and patrol around our house. Everyone in the neighborhood says Hi to her. A true "Gentle Giant".

Our Pyr Sparky is the greatest companion, a loyal friend and a consistant victom of habit. He insists on following the same routine on a daily basis depending upon which home we're in at the time. He was a rescue dog that has been a pleasure to go through life with.

The most wonderful dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing was my Angel, she died of cancer 7 years ago,I miss her so much.I rescued her from a house where her old owners sold the place and left her behind! She had huge growths on her foot that kinda hit the ground as she walked, she was malnourished, and sooo matted.....but I knew I wasn't leaving without her.It turns out we ended up being a part of each others lives for nearly 10 years.I would love a little Angel again,I just have to find her or maybe she'll find me.I wanted to let you know my story and tell you what a wonderful site you have created........

We're interested in "expanding" our family with a great pyr puppy, and would be interested in meeting reputable breeders in the northern New England area.

We have 2 puppies, a male and a female, almost 7 weeks old. They are wonderful little furry things!! They are not full breeds, but very much like them. The male (Jake) is going to another home soon and we are keeping the female (Bandi) to run with our goats, about 18 of them. Their mother died shortly after giving birth to them, along with 4 others who did not make it. We have bottle fed them since they were about 3 days old.

HI, we have a 3 yr. old Great Pyrenees (Sheena) but she also has a little Chow in her, she has a Chow tail and the purple toungue! She is the sweetest dog, such a wonderful pet to have around. We get compliments on her all the time, she's such a mellow dog, lovable, loves to play with the kids. Priceless!!!

I have a full Pyr that is 7 months old named Clifford, also a
mixed Pyr and Irish Wolfhound named Roadie that I love both to death.
They truly are The Gentle Giants. I have two grandchildren and I do not
worry about them around "my boys" at all. They tell me good-bye in the
morning as I leave for work and the first to say hello when I get home.

My Pyrnees names are "Teakae"and"Kaetea," both were given to me by friends who didn't want them any more.
Both were pups when I took them in. "Teak" is four and "Katy" is a little over two. We just had a litter of
beautiful pups on the 4th of July. They aren't registered, and there is no way I can trace down their lineage to find out.
They are pure bred however. I have three pup's left, a female and two males, but I need to find someone loving and
responsible to sell them to. So, I'll just keep loving them until I do.

HI! I have to agree with everyone else that the Great Pyrenees is the greatest breed of dog. My husband and I have a 6 year old male and he's about 175 pounds!!! He loves everyone and is very good with children. Everywhere we go he's with us and we always get wonderful comments on him. He's very calm and has quite a personality. We couldn't imagine our lives without him. He's truley the baby of the family and thinks that he's more human than we are!!!!
