The chat room is open 24 hours 7 days the week. It is free for anyone to use who
is interested in chatting about Pyrs.
To be able to use the chat room you need a Java enabled browser: with Win'95:
Netscape 2.0, 3.0 or higher or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher.
Mac users must use MS Internet Explorer 3.01b, it wil not work with Netscape 3.0
currently.
Win 3.1 users can use Netscape 3.01 beta with Java for Win 3.1 or Netscape
Communicator 4.x
If you don't have these browsers you can download them at the web sites of
Microsoft or Netscape.
To connect to the chat room,click on the chat room link at the bottom of this
page and the application will load automatically. It may take a little time, so
be patient.
Once the chat screen is loaded, fill in a name at the Nickname field and click
on the 'ok connect' button.
If possible please use your real name as a Nickname. (ie-if you are Susan Smith,
pick Susan or Sue) If you get the message that the name is already in use,
someone else is already logged in with this name, you have to choose a different
name then. (Susan Smith might try SueS)
Please also fill in the field asking for the real name (First and last) , so we
can recognize with whom we are chatting. To see this information you highlight
the name of the user in the small black screen and click on the user information
button. I don't think that this should be a problem to anybody as we introduced
to the Pyr-list with personal information too, and there should be no reason for
anonimity.
When you are logged in, you can see on the small black screen on the right side
the names of other users already in the chat room. To send your message just
type it in the bottom field where it says 'type here' and hit the 'return' key
to send it. You will see your own message on the screen with your name.
The number of people using the chat room at the same time is restricted to 25.
When you are at the chat screen, you will notice buttons on the upper right. One
of them is labeled FAQs. Open these at some point and read the User FAQs. They
will tell you more about how the chat room functions and what everything does.
You might want to print them out.
We hope at some time to have "topic" chats set up for scheduled times where we
can discuss specific things. These could range from health issues (ie skin
problems and treatment) to training, to computer and email systems. Suggestions
are always welcome. When such chats are arranged they will be announced well
ahead of time. At any other times, anyone can go to open chat.
This chat facility is created for the subscribers of the Great Pyrenees mailing
list's and other Pyr fanciers. So I expect that the topic will be mostly Pyr
related. As this place is ment to be fun, entertainment and exchanging
experiences and information, I don't want flames or hostilities. I aspect
politenes and respect for each others opinion. I don't think this is too much to
ask for ? So go on and have fun.
